In 2009and 2010, with the support of the Director General, our Diplomats inResidence identified outstanding, diverse candidates for thoseinternships, providing them the chance to experience work inWashington, DC, and embassies and consulates around the world. Twenty-three percent of these 100 paid interns were Hispanic.

Through this program one Hispanic employee, a first generationAmerican, had the opportunity to experience diplomacy in action workingin our Embassy in Guatemala last summer.
